The Budapest government parliament building is modelled on the British houses of parliament. Destroyed in the second world war and rebuilt after, the new building is a stunning building on the bank of the river Danube in Budapest, Hungary.
St Stephens Basilica is a massively rebuilt catholic cathedral in Budapest – 302 steps to climb to see this view.
Built to rival the palace of Versailles, Schonbrunn palace is a huge site including state rooms, ornate gardens, a zoo, botanical gardens and over 100 acres of parkland. This folly is set on a man made view in perfect compliment with the main palace building. Today it is simply a vantage point of the site and cafe.
On the Pest bank Fishermans bastion has an almost Disney feel looking out on views down the Danube.
Not only the tower by the Baptist and Cathedral on the same site all tilt. The land started to slip soon after construction which is why substantial shoring up was done to prevent collapse. Unfortunately, despite the care and quality of craftsmanship in the detail, the overall impact impact is dimishished. Also notice the how the top levels are not square.
The largest freestanding, brick built dome in the world. Larger than the Dome at St Peter’s in the Vatican by 20cm. Incredibly Brunellesci completed the construction in 16 years in 1436. This using engineering techniques and mathematics never seen before, indeed modern maths was only invented in the 20th Century that fully describes the dynamics.
