Built to rival the palace of Versailles, Schonbrunn palace is a huge site including state rooms, ornate gardens, a zoo, botanical gardens and over 100 acres of parkland. This folly is set on a man made view in perfect compliment with the main palace building. Â Today it is simply a vantage point of the site and cafe.

In the morning before the heat of the sun has burnt off the fog in the valley, a blanket lies across the low ground obscuring the view of the Kitzsteinhorn. Â Taken from the Panorama Bar at the top of the Bereitecbahn on Mountain Schmittenhoehe.
After an evening of heavy snowfall the temperature on the KItzsteinhorn plunged to -15C. Â From 3000m looking back across the Kaprun valley the Lake Zell am See lies majestically at the foot of the Schmittenhoehe ski resort.
With fresh power snow beneath the Sun beams from across the Patzier glacier illuminating the peak of the Kitzsteinhorn at 3029m – the “top of Salzburg”
The lake is still and the air temperature -5C, capturing the profile of Thummersbach in the lake reflection.

Not only the tower by the Baptist and Cathedral on the same site all tilt. Â The land started to slip soon after construction which is why substantial shoring up was done to prevent collapse. Unfortunately, despite the care and quality of craftsmanship in the detail, the overall impact impact is dimishished. Â Also notice the how the top levels are not square.
The largest freestanding, brick built dome in the world. Â Larger than the Dome at St Peter’s in the Vatican by 20cm. Â Incredibly Brunellesci completed the construction in 16 years in 1436. This using engineering techniques and mathematics never seen before, indeed modern maths was only invented in the 20th Century that fully describes the dynamics.
